Ganesh Chaturthi festival story

 What's Ganesh Chaturthi?

Ganesh Chaturthi commemorates the birthday of Lord Ganesh. Hindus believe it to be the most important day to worship the cherished giant- headed god who's deified for his capability to remove obstacles. On this day, beautiful handwrought icons of the Lord are installed both in homes and in public. Prana Pratishtha is performed to bring the power of the deity into the hero, followed by a 16- step ritual known as" Shodashopachara Puja." During the ritual, colorful immolations including sweets, coconuts, and flowers are made to the hero.

The ritual should be performed at an auspicious time around noon( Madhyahna) when Lord Ganesh is believed to have been born. As per Vedic divination, it extends from about 11a.m. to1.30p.m. depending on the position in India. It's important, according to tradition, not to look at the moon during certain times on GaneshChaturthi. However, according to Hindu tradition, they'll be cursed with allegations of theft and lowered by society unless they chant a certain mantra, If a person sees the moon. supposedly, this came about after Lord Krisha was falsely indicted of stealing a precious jewel. savant Narada said that Krishna must've seen the moon on Bhadrapad Shukla Chaturthi( the occasion that Ganesh Chaturthi falls on) and was accursed because of it. likewise, anyone who saw the moon from also on would be cursed in a analogous way.

The icons of Lord Ganesh are worshiped every day, with an" aarti", a ritual of deification, in the evening.

The largest Ganesh statues, on display to the public, are taken out and immersed in water on Anant Chaturdashi in grand road processions featuring a bowwow of traditional drumming and crackers. numerous people who keep an hero in their homes carry out the absorption much before this however. still, similar absorption only take place on certain days-- one and a half, three, five, and seven days after Ganesh Chaturthi. The jubilee takes place on a grand scale in Mumbai,. What's Anant Chaturdashi? You may be wondering why the absorption of Ganeshi icons concludes on this day. Why is it special? In Sanskrit, Anant refers to eternal or horizonless energy, or eternity.

The day is actually devoted to the deification of Lord Anant, an manifestation of Lord Vishnu( the conserver and sustainer of life, also appertained to as the supreme being). Chaturdashi means the" fourteenth". In this case, the occasion falls on the 14th day of the bright half of the moon during the month of Bhadrapad on the Hindu timetable.

STORY OF GANESH CHATURTHY

Ganesha Chaturthi is celebrated on the day on which Lord Ganesha is believed to bestow his presence on earth for all his addicts. Ganesha, the giant- headed son of Shiva and Parvati, is worshipped as the supreme god of wisdom, substance and good fortune. Though it's celebrated as the birthday of Lord Ganesha, the symbolism behind the jubilee is important deeper. The substance of Ganesha is brought out beautifully by Adi Shankara. Though Ganesha is worshipped as the giant- headed God, the form( swaroop) is just to bring out its parabrahma roopa. Ganesha is described as Ajam Nirvikalpam Niraakaaramekam. This means that Ganesha is noway born. He's Ajam( future), he's Niraakaar( formless) and he's Nirvikalpa( attributeless). Ganesha symbolises the knowledge which is universal. Ganesha is the same energy which is the reason for this macrocosm, from which everything is manifested and it’s the same energy in which the whole world will dissolve. Ganesha isn't nearly outside of us, but the veritably centre of our life. But this is veritably subtle knowledge. Not everybody can perceive the formless without the form. Our ancient Rishis and Munis knew this; so they created the form for the benefit and understanding of people at all situations. Those who ca n’t witness the formless, over a period of sustained experience of manifested form reach the formless Brahman. So in reality, Ganesha is formless; yet there's a form to which Adi Shankara supplicated and that form carries the communication of the formlessness of Ganesha. therefore, the form serves as the starting point and gradationally the formless knowledge begins to manifest. Ganesh Chaturthi marks a unique art of reaching the formless Paramatma called Lord Ganesh by the repeated deification of his manifest form. Indeed the Ganesh Stotram, the prayers recited in the praise of Ganeshji, conveys the same. We supplicate to Ganesha in our knowledge to come out and sit in the hero for us for a while so that we can play with Him. After the puja, we again supplicate asking Him to go back to where He came from – our knowledge. While He's in the hero, we offer back whatever God has given us through the puja of the hero. The ritual of immersing( visarjan) the icons after many days of deification reinforces the understanding that God isn't in the hero, He's inside us. So passing the Omnipresent in the form and inferring joy out of the form is the substance of the Ganesh Chaturthi jubilee. In a way, similar systematized festivity and worships lead to an upsurge in enthusiasm and devotion. Ganesha is the lord of all the good rates in us. So when we worship Him, all the good rates blossom in us. He's also the Lord of knowledge and wisdom. Knowledge dawns only when we come apprehensive of the tone. When there's indolence, there's no knowledge, no wisdom, nor is there any vibrance( Chaitanya) or progress in life. So the knowledge has to be awakened and the presiding deity of knowledge is Ganesha. That’s why before every puja, the Lord Ganesha is worshipped to awaken the knowledge. thus, install the hero, worship it with horizonless love, meditate and witness Lord Ganesha from within. This is the emblematic substance of Ganesh Chaturthi jubilee, to awaken the Ganesh tattva which is masked inside us.
